This is the prediction for Lyon vs Metz in the 2023 French League, statistics, scores, line-ups and head to head of the two teams.
The Groupama Stadium hosts Sunday's Ligue 1 relegation battle, where 18th-placed Lyon will face 16th-placed Metz.
While the hosts' last match against Marseille was postponed due to embarrassing scenes outside the stadium, Les Grenats drew 0-0 in a less than exciting match against Le Havre in their last outing.
Lyon vs Metz statistics
Preview Lyon
Although Lyon have been on the receiving end of many defeats on the pitch this season and could have received similar treatment against rivals Choc des Olympiques, newly appointed head coach Fabio Grosso probably never expected to be hospitalized after his team bus was attacked outside the stadium.
As stones were thrown at the vehicle, images quickly circulated of Grosso unconscious and bleeding, and authorities took the decision to cancel the derby, although Lyon owner John Textor revealed that his team wanted to go ahead with their match last Sunday.
Grosso's players have therefore had two weeks to reflect on their most recent defeat in the top flight. Where Les Gones lost 2-1 at home against Clermont, thus remaining winless in nine games this season—an undesirable streak that no other team in the division has.
With just three points, the seven-time Ligue 1 champions remain at the bottom of the standings—with seven goals scored their worst defensive record at home—only Rennes (10) have also conceded two points at home.
Preview Metz
Before Lyon's shocking bus attack, Metz and Le Havre played at the Stade Saint-Symphorien last weekend, but the crowd of 20,000 could have surely chosen a more exciting match to attend.
Les Grenats only had 41% possession on the night, but Le Havre were unable to capitalize on their territorial advantage as the match ended goalless; a result that Metz coach Laszlo Boloni certainly welcomed after his team's series of poor results.
By playing out a 0-0 draw with Le Havre, Les Grenats ended a four-match winless run in France's top competition to remain 16th.
However, given the very tight nature of the standings, only three points separate the Boloni team from Rennes who are in eighth place.
Metz's goal-scoring problems have not been resolved, although a lackluster draw with Le Havre marked their fourth match without a goal in the last five Ligue 1 games, although their only two wins in Ligue 1 this 2023-24 season came in the form of a 1-0 win over Lens and Clermont at home.
Before dropping down to the Ligue 2 division, Metz impressed with two wins and one draw from three meetings with Lyon between January 2021 and May 2022, but when the two teams met again in January in the third round of the Coupe de France, Les Gones came out on top with a score of 2-1.
